I don't think I've read enough of his to deem Slaughterhouse Five the best but I thought it was clever. If you're interested in more of a biography his book Fates Worse Than Death is a series of reflections, etc quite humorous and interesting to hear him speak as himself.

Since im reading Cats Cradle and Slaughter House 5 is next it will have to wait a while

Guess what book I have to read in my Environmental Design class? 1984! The class is focused on the use of space and politics of identity-building so I think the way history is constantly shifting and being reintegrated into the citizens lives is a good example of the power of media. I thought you'd like to know.

Thx for letting me know;
I dont see how the power of media is displayed in 1984 since the media is powerless and government controlled

I think his later books, especially fates worse than death, were very good. I would strongly recomend "God Bless you Mr. Rosewater" also. His collection of short stories, "Welcome to the monkey house" is very good. I once read an interview where he graded his books. You might try to find that.

I guess the point is the potential of media, though it is in the hands of the government it is still a very effective tool i.e-how it keeps rewriting history and rewriting slogans "we have always been at war with east asia" and create a false common history for the nation just manipulating existing images.
