there is a perfect example of how the media operates in 1984-guarding history and preserving national symbols of unity even at the sake of true understanding is something that even if not legally enforced here still goes on. I suppose that's why 1984 is so relevant for a class about citizenship in the city and how that mindset is shaped through national symbols of some common, linear, single-perspective history. I bet there are a lot of symbols like that around where you live Eric.
